چکیده

This master-thesis engages in the security aspect of the newly introduced IPv6-based routing protocol for low-power and lossy networks RPL. In an analysis of the security of RPL, it is shown that RPL protects against most attacks launched by an adversary that does not have access to the security keys. The major threat lies within an attacker who has compromised these keys and who is consequently able to launch topology attacks. Two topology authentication schemes are presented and evaluated which deal with the prevention of such attacks: VeRA and TRAIL. The VeRA approach employs hash chains for veriVcation of the topology of RPL. TRAIL relies on the transmission of a round-trip message that veriVes the topology hop-by-hop. It is shown that these schemes can detect and isolate an insider attacker. A practical evaluation of TRAIL gives a Vrst impression of the delays that result from the veriVcation procedure.

Improving the Performance of RPL Routing Protocol for Internet of Things

The emerging Internet of Things (IoT) connects the physical world to the digital one and composes large networks of smart devices to support various applications. In order to provide a suitable communication in such networks, a reliable routing protocol is needed. In this paper, a modified version of an IPv6 Routing Protocol for Low-Power and Lossy networks (RPL), which has been standardized by...

A survey on RPL attacks and their countermeasures

RPL (Routing Protocol for Low Power and Lossy Networks) has been designed for low power networks with high packet loss. Generally, devices with low processing power and limited memory are used in this type of network. IoT (Internet of Things) is a typical example of low power lossy networks. In this technology, objects are interconnected through a network consisted of low-power circuits. Exampl...

Improving the QoS in Intelligent Connected EVSE by Using RPL

Nowadays, a great portion of researches research and industrial innovation is about the electric vehicles (EV) and also EV Supply Equipment (EVSE) that play an important role in this context. EVSE requires standardization via effective communication protocols. In this paper, we propose to customize the existing Internet standard Routing Protocol for Low Power and Lossy Networks (RPL) to facilit...

Composite Metrics for Routing in Low Power and Lossy Networks

IETF ROLL (Routing Over Low power and Lossy networks) Group proposes the RPL (IPv6 Routing Protocol for LLNs) for routing in low power and lossy networks. Though RPL is able to work on several routing metrics, the details of using these metrics are not completely specified in the standard. To meet different QoS requirements of the applications, adopting proper routing metrics is essential. In t...

A Comparative Study of the Routing Protocols LOAD and RPL in Low-power and Lossy Networks (LLN)

Routing protocols for sensor networks are often designed with explicit assumptions, serving to simplify design and reduce the necessary energy, processing and communications requirements. IPv6 Routing Protocol for Low Power and Lossy Networks (RPL) is a routing protocol specifically designed for Low power and Lossy Networks (LLN) compliant with the 6LoWPAN protocol. It currently shows up as an ...
